Ships IO is a comprehensive database of ships with related companies and yards. As a subscriber you get access to all Ships IO data. This allows you to search for Ships, Companies and Yards and view their details and related fleets. No database is ever complete, so we encourage all our subscribers to contribute to data by editing ships, companies and yards and even create new ones. This also includes contributing photos of ships. With our newest feature Parts, you can now also list and search new and used parts for sale.
Since 2010, we've operated with free access. Unfortunately, this is costing us money and this ultimately prevents us from growing and improving the product. Charging a small fee (and we really do think it's very affordable) allows us to pay for cloud storage and data access and ensures the continuation of Ships IO service for the future. By becoming a subscriber, you'll help Ships IO provide this service.
Once you Sign-up and log in, you can pick a subscription from the Account page. At that point, we'll ask for a credit card. Your credit card will automatically get charged the monthly or yearly fee and continue to do so each month or year. You can return to the Account page any time to see a list of your charges, change the credit card used to pay for your subscription and of course cancel your subscription any time you like.
From the Account page, you can cancel your subscription with just a click of a button. Your subscription will then expire at the end of your billing period and you will not get charged again. You can also cancel your subsription by simply e-mailing us at team@shipsio.com.
You do. Ships IO reserves the right to use it in our Ships IO database, but we do not sell your photos to any third parties, nor do we reserve any exclusive rights. You maintain the right to do whatever you want with your photos, including removing them from our site.
There is in practice no limit to how many photos can be added to the Ships IO database. We do prefer to keep the physical size of photos within normal limits, so if you upload a very large or high pixel density photo (more than 4000x3000 pixels), we will automatically resize it before upload.
Photos need to be uploaded to a specific ship. However, if you have multiple photos of that ship, the easiest and fastest way to upload them is to drag the files over to the photo upload box. You'll get a progress bar for each photo upload and upload speed only depends on your own network connection.
Immediately. Any additions or edits you make will immediately show up in the system right away. All changes are tracked, so if you make a serious mistake (i.e. delete a ship you didn't want to delete), contact us and we'll have an administrator undo your changes.
Ships IO is a dynamic database that changes on a daily basis, so we don't offer any offline mode. You'll need to be online to access the data and your speed and experience largely depends on your own connection to the Internet.
